‘Channel Health Alliance, (CHA) has once again supported a variety of students this summer to enjoy a practical look at the delivery of healthcare in the Community. This included work experience for students currently at Dover grammar schools who are considering careers in health, two dietetic students and one first year medical student, all currently studying at university.
The students were given the opportunity to accompany an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, providing Enhanced Access to patients. The students were able to observe patient consultations, enabling them to learn how people are treated with dignity and respect, compassion, and kindness whilst always ensuring the safety of a patient. They were able to observe how the Nurse assessed the patients’ condition, according to how the patient presented, and how a diagnosis is made. This was of course undertaken with patients consent.
The students were also able to accompany our staff in the Home Visting Service. shadowing Health Care Assistants, Nurses and Paramedics, whilst visiting people in their own homes and gain a better understanding of the challenges which sometimes arise by treating and supporting people in their own homes.
This is not the first time Channel Health Alliance has supported students in this way. We have received positive feedback from these students and their schools/universities and is something we hope to expand over the coming years. .
Channel Health Alliance is proud to be playing a small part in encouraging and supporting students to secure the work force of the future, helping to support the desperately needed increase in doctors, nurses and other registered practitioners in our local health services.
